September 2009
Out of musical and personal reasons the time had come after five years membership in the band Overload to leave that band and found a new one. In summer 2004 Vari Gabriella, Ively Mato and Hägar definitely left the band to grow musically and to find new motivated members for a new formation. In autumn 2004 the search ended with Alain Stucki as our new guitarist and that was also the hour of birth of ArcanuM. The initial line-up was the following: Gabi vocals, Mato bass, Alain guitar and Hägar drums. After a short time Alain introduced excellent keyboarder Manu to the band. With high pressure the formation began to rehearse and to write new songs.
ArcanuM was the heart of Overload and that means a band which loves to play live. Their life is on stage. To be able to ask for concerts the need for a Promo CD grew from week to week. In this plight the guitarist offered to use his private studio to record and produce this CD. As his studio was much bigger than their own old-fashioned, small but well-equipped studio, the band decided to take his offer. They decided furthermore to close the old studio out of financial reasons and to kind of merge the two studios into a single one. That decision should become one of the biggest mistakes in the young career of the band.
Mr. Stucki is a man who says A, means B, and finally does C! One week before the start of the recordings that nice Mr. Stucki communicated us his immediate exit via SMS over night. He took the genius keyboarder with him and was never seen again. There ArcanuM was again in front of a pile of shards and had to restart the search again. And not enough with that, the material from the studio left piled up and was lying around without sense. Frustration, anger and rage gave force and power to the other members not to give up. After an intense research and testing period the band found a follower on the guitar! It was Cueni Roman. Unfortunately, a new keyboarder was never found. The new line-up in spring 2005 looked as follows: Gabi-Voc, Mato-Bass, Roman-Gui, and Hägar-Drums.
Work started again, new songs were written and the band rehearsed as hard as never before. The goal was still the same: To get back on stage. On 17th December 2006 the moment had come: ArcanuM played live for the first time. The concert was in a very small but fine club in Altdorf (UR). It was a great feeling for Gabi, Mato and Hägar to be back on stage together with Roman, to celebrate, and to be back alive as ArcanuM. This concert was also a compensation for all the hard work. Again the appetite for new concerts and also the pressure for a new Demo CD grew...
As ArcanuM had closed their old, small studio in the beginning, the band was forced to make the record in their own rehearsal room, which diminished the quality of the CD. They thought back in anger and wished they had never given up their studio. Those ugly circumstances injected ArcanuM new motivation. They tried to make the best out of their possibilities und produced the Demo CD "Bloody Wings of Comeback". The title is a reminder of the past. The day Gabi, Mato, and Hägar left Overload a lot of not so nice things and bad wishes for their future were posted from the remaining members. ArcanuM produced 14 songs, ten of which were published. Due to private connections ArcanuM was asked to produce a song in Russian language.
Out of pure pleasure ArcanuM did that and that's why the song "Once upon a time" exists in Russian language too now.
With the Demo in their pocket they played some concerts. In 2007 it became very obvious that it was necessary to record the new material once again to be able to progress. Therefore ArcanuM produced their second Demo CD "The End is just the Beginning" on their own from 25th December 2007 to the end of January 2008. The release party took place at Absolut Pub in Lucerne on 15th March 2008. A few gigs followed. In summer 2008 Cueni told them that he would leave the band by the end of the year due to personal, musical and health reasons. The band accepted his decision with regret, and continued to work seriously. In autumn of the very same year, ArcanuM received an offer from a German label. That prompted Cueni to leave the band immediately, so that ArcanuM could not even have a snowball's chance in hell to be able to accept the offer.
Another ugly consequence was that ArcanuM had to cancel several concerts at home and abroad.
At the end of October the vacancy could be suitably filled by Sile. With this new line-up the third Demo CD "Life Is Too Short To Be Serious" was produced in their rehearsal room. On 24th January 2009 ArcanuM played their first live gig with the new member. In summer 2009 ArcanuM produced their Debut Album "Control of Insanity". Release date was the 1st Septermber 2009. In late autumn 2009 charter member Mato told us that he will leave the band at the end of the year due to time difficulties. After a short and instense search Fux was found as our new bassist and a worthy successor. With this new Line-Up ArcanuM recorded their second album "No Past, No Future, SSDD". The release of this second album was on 01.April 2010. It's gonna be thrilling to see where the journey of the new ArcanuM people will go.
